Monday 18th January

Good morning Year 3.  Today there is some Maths, English and Computing for you to have a go at.  Make sure you upload your work onto Seesaw so that I can have a look at what you have been doing.

Reading Plus and TT Rockstars

Start today by spending some time completing at least one session of your reading plus and some time practising your timetables on TT Rockstars.

Maths

We are going to be looking at the formal method of short division today.  This is moving on from the written method of short multiplication which we have been looking at but we are still going to be using our knowledge of multiplying in order to help us.  As usual, look out for the input video which we will put onto Seesaw and then have a look through the lesson presentation yourself.  There is then a main activity consisting of 1 star, 2 star and 3 star level.  Choose an appropriate level based on how well you have understood the input and presentation and then give the questions a go.

I have also included the answers so you can self-check and mark to see how well you got on like we sometimes do together in class.

English

Spelling starter

Take a look at this week’s spellings which you will be tested on Friday.  Look at the week 2 spellings and write me a sentence for each of your spellings.  Make sure you punctuate your sentences correctly.  If you want to challenge yourself, see if you can write a paragraph about the same subject and include all of your spellings in that.

Main English

Today you are going to write a non-chronological report about the Stone Age.  A non-chronological report is a non-fiction piece of writing which provides information about a particular subject.  It is set out using headings, subheadings and can also include pictures or diagrams.

You are going to use our book, Stone Age Boy, to gather all of the information that you will include in your report.

You can decide what the sections of your report will be about but I would suggest the following:

  • An introduction
  • Why it was called the Stone Age
  • Jobs in camp
  • Food and hunting
  • Surviving in the Stone Age
  • Fun facts (these could things you have found out from our History lessons or something you have researched)

Success criteria

  • Capital letters and full stops (writing in sentences)
  • Use headings and subheadings
  • Conjunctions
  • Bullet points
  • Rhetorical questions (challenge)

Computing

We are going to continue with our new topic looking at creating PowerPoint presentations.  This week we are going to focus on inserting media into our PowerPoints.

I will record a video in class on how to do this an upload it to Seesaw ASAP.

This week, you are going to combine your skills of adding wordart, textboxes, shapes and now iamges to create a birthday invitation for a party of your choice.  Choose the theme of the party and then create an invitation which you could send out to all of your friends.  It should include:

  • A title
  • A background
  • Appropriate images
  • Useful information about the party
