Monday 25th January

Good morning Year 3.  Today there is some Maths, English and Computing for you to have a go at.  Make sure you upload your work onto Seesaw so that I can have a look at what you have been doing.

Reading Plus and TT Rockstars

Start today by spending some time completing at least one session of your reading plus and some time practising your timetables on TT Rockstars.

We are going to move away from our written methods of short multiplication and short division (bus stop method) this week and look at something a bit different.  You will find however that you will keep calling on your written methods for all 4 operations in the work we do from now anyway.

This week we are looking at money and solving problems which involve the use of money.  Today, we are going start with a bit of a recap of what we should already know when it comes to money.

Take a look at the video (link below) and have a go at the activity worksheet which is attached.

Spelling starter

Take a look at this week’s spellings which you will be tested on Friday.  Look at the week 3 spellings and create a wordsearch which contains them all.  Fill in all of the spaces, leave the wordsearch and then come back and see if you can find all of your spellings in there.

Main English

This week we are going to be writing our own Stone Age Boy story.  This is going to be something that we spend the week preparing, writing and hopefully sharing with one another.

The context of your story is as follows:

You are going to write a story from the point of view of the Stone Age Boy.  You are grown up now and are an archaeologist.  You are visiting the site of your most recent project and come across a very familiar looking cave painting... Can you guess which painting it is?  Yes, it is the one which Om drew in the story we have looked at.

After coming across the cave painting of yourself you are going to find yourself in the Stone Age again and from here you will reunite with Om and her family but she is now older like you and you are to tell your own adventure story.

This is going to take a lot of effort Year 3 as you need to call on your imagination to help you make up your own version of events.

Today, I want to see your plan for your story.  You can present this in any way that you want but you need to think about the following:

  • How will your character get back to the Stone Age?
  • How will you come across Om and her family again?
  • Will there be any other main characters in the story?
  • How they all react to you, do they recognise you?
  • What is your main climax/problem/adventure is going to be?
  • What events will build up to this main part of your story?
  • How your story is going to end - will you return back home once again, will you stay in the Stone Age?

This planning stage is very important and you need to spend some time working on this so that it is very clear in your head how your story is going to unfold.

Good luck Year 3!

We are going to continue with our new topic looking at creating PowerPoint presentations.  This week we are going to focus on animating our PowerPoints.  This means we are going to look at making the slides and objects within our slides ‘do something’.

I am going to post a video on how we can animate our PowerPoint presentations and I will also include an example of what you are going to make.

This week, you are going to combine your skills of adding wordart, textboxes, shapes, images and now animations to create your own animated comic strip.  This should include:

  • A title
  • A background
  • Characters who move onto the screen.
  • Speech bubbles that appear on the screen and disappear after a certain time.
